There are relief services for Alzheimer's caregivers

Doctors, nurses, social workers and others involved in the care of people with Alzheimer's disease understand that the people who care for these patients have important needs, too. Respite care is the name for a variety of services designed to give caregivers a break from their often-difficult responsibilities. Assisted-living facilities and nursing homes often provide short-term care for Alzheimer's patients who normally live at home. Other facilities provide adult day care. These may be good choices for a caregiver who works, or when a caregiver travels. Respite care can also come in the form of home-care services. Such care can allow a caregiver to step out for social engagements, appointments, shopping or other activities.
